Teddy Bear Hugs

I'm sharing a very simple card today. I started out by creating a heart shape "stencil" and stamped a bunch of chicks to fill up the empty heart space. Then I stamped a teddy bear in the corner peaking out. I colored everything with Copic markers including the ombre dark blue border. In the end, I added some decorations such as cross stitch borders and sequins to make the card looks not so empty.
 
Good timing for a July 4th theme card!

Embark On New Journey

While I'm working on Purple Onion Design (POD)'s latest and cutest stamps, I finally understand why many POD lovers like to leave the background black and white. Most of the character stamps are already big on its own and if you combine with background/decorations, you'll end up with a big card which is time consuming to color. More importantly, it's easy to lose focal point of the card. While I'm working on arranging the scene, I realized it is for the best to leave the background uncolored!

In this design, the dog and kitty are the main characters. The boat hits the shore. They hop off the boat and embark on their new adventure in the unknown land.

Open To The Deep Blue Sea

Escher made a birthday card for his kindergarten teacher. But not just made, he designed the whole card from start to finish all by himself. I was so proud!
 
I started off by showing him all my stamp and die collections. He decided the theme (mermaid) and the layout (shaker + deckled rectangle window) very quickly. When he told me he decided to make a open shaker card, I didn't really get it... how can a shaker card be opened and not having the sequins fall out...? He then told me step by step how to seal the window from both front and back with acetate. Took me a while to get it.
 
He also explained to me that all the sea elements need to go inside the card so that it looks like they are deep in the ocean. He needed to watercolor the background to create the water effects. And the text will go to the back of this card because there will not be space for him to write in the ocean.... Everything is so planned out! All I need to do is help him with detailed execution such as lining up the shaker window pieces and heat embossing the sentiment...etc.

Wish Upon A Star

Today I'm using my favorite stamp set from Lawn Fawn's 2017 summer release. I really enjoy how the fox and bunny look up to the sky and that there are so many constellation stamps in the set.

For the background I used Zig clean color real brush markers. I first scribbled 5 different blue/green colors all over my watercolor paper. Then I used a wet brush to spread out the paints and blend the colors, as well as drawing the outlines of the background. The colors from these Zig markers are so vibrant. I didn't need to create multiple layers like I normally do with normal watercolor.

After the background was created, I used silver embossing powder to emboss the constellations. I also splashed some water and appiled the same silver embossing powder to create random star effects. At this point, the background is finished and the rest is simple!
